Travel China Guide makes a stronger judgment by listing Rooster among Horse’s worst matches.[6] Your Chinese Astrology is less absolute but still cautious. Its score for Dean and Parton’s actual gender combination—male Horse with female Rooster—is 60 out of 100 and describes a “lack of orchestration.” The reverse combination receives 65 and is characterized as “bumpy, but able to move forward together.”[7]

Those findings should not be averaged into a made-up consensus score. The branch grid asks whether two animal signs occupy recognized patterns of alliance or conflict. The popular calculators make broader relationship judgments and may apply gendered assumptions. A label such as “worst match” belongs to the particular chart that produced it; it is not a unanimous verdict from Chinese tradition.

What “workable with effort” looked like in their marriage

Dean largely avoided the public world that surrounded Parton. She maintained a highly visible career; he became known for his reclusiveness and rarely accompanied her to industry events.
